  • Chapter: Debugging

A special debugging option is provided that will trace the progress of input loops for us. To use this option, activate the use option:

        Use input loop debugging.

This will print debugging statements, set off by a --> symbol, at each stage of your input loops, including the main input loop.

A debugging command is also provided; type LOOPS or INPUT LOOPS at the command prompt to see a summary of the currently running input loops. Unfortunately, this debug command is probably useless for most situations, since by the time it runs we will have exited from the main input loop, and very likely from any other input loop as well. Still, it is provided for completeness. The more effective route will be to deploy this say phrase from source code:

        say "[currently running input loops]"

This will provide the same type of output as the command, but triggered from your source code at the exact moment when you need it.
