Inform release 6L38
Release date: 2014-08-30 21:17:33
Description of this release
Unlike its predecessor, build 6L02, this release of Inform is aimed almost entirely at maintenance: it fixes around 150 bugs, most of them minor and related to recent changes. Users of 6L02 should be able to upgrade with no preparation needed; users of earlier builds, though, would be well advised to read the notes on the big changes in 6L02 before proceeding.
But there is one major development, all the same: for the first time Inform is being released for a mass-market mobile operating system - Android.
The two manuals for Inform, "Writing with Inform" and "The Inform Recipe Book", are included in the application itself, but they can also be downloaded as an EPUB.
Inform for Mac OS X For Macs running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or later: note, in particular, that this means an Intel-processor Mac is required. (This is a revised version of the user interface to fix a problem some users had when creating new projects.) To uninstall: Drag the application to the trash.
Inform for Windows Installer for all versions of Windows from Windows XP Service Pack 3 (with Internet Explorer 8) onwards. (It may run on earlier versions of Windows, but these have not been tested and are unsupported.) Double click on the downloaded executable file to start installation. For most users the default install parameters are what is required, so just keep clicking "Next" until the install has completed. An entry for "Inform 7" will appear in the Start Menu, from which Inform can be run. To uninstall: Go to "Uninstall a program" in the Control Panel, select "Inform 7" and click on "Uninstall".
Command line Inform built for Linux on x86_64, i386, ppc, and arm6 (hardfloat only, e.g. Raspberry Pi) architectures CLI Inform for Linux is supplied as a gzipped tar. Once this is opened, installation instructions can be found in the file INSTALL, and operational instructions in README or the manual page installed by the Inform installer. This is an assembly of a command-line interface written in Perl together with independent command-line tools.

You will be asked whether you want to install the file; click "Install" to proceed and enter your administrator password. After the installation finishes, Inform 7 will appear in your applications.
Inform for Gnome on Linux, packaged for Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit version) (This is a .deb package.) Double-click on the downloaded file to open Ubuntu Software Center. Click "Install" or "Upgrade". Inform 7 will be available in your applications after the installation has finished.
